Do You Have a Purpose?

purpose

It’s easy to fall into a rut.  You do the same things today that you did yesterday, and tomorrow will be the same (unless it’s one of those rare weekends where you don’t work).

Every day merges into every other day a bit like that Bill Murray film, Groundhog Day. Maybe you feel that it’s one step forward, two steps back all of the time? The reasons for feeling like this can vary, but from my experience it’s normally one or more of the following:

  • You don’t have enough clients, and worry about it
  • Your clients don’t value what you do for them
  • You spend too much time doing work that you really don’t enjoy
  • You have too much work, and not enough time to do it

If you’re ignoring the problems, or worse still just plodding on, maybe it’s time to change.

Albert Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  Maybe the way to get the results you want an need, is to do something a bit different.

Why not try this next week?

At the beginning of the week have a goal that will change your situation.  Not a massive goal, but something simple.

If you don’t have enough clients, plan to do one thing that will help to find some.  Don’t waste time planning until it’s perfect, actually just do something.

If you feel you work too much, try properly planning your week.  Set aside time for client work, time for admin, time for breaks and really stick to it. If your clients don’t value you, do one thing to start to change that relationship.

If you don’t think you can, start to think about how you can replace them. If you don’t like how things have become, only you can change it.  One small thing will get the ball rolling.

What will your purpose be next week?
